REUNION NOTICE 2021
Following lengthy discussion and debate via email, the board in a 7-1 vote, decided to change the location of the reunion from Ft Worth Texas to St Louis MO for our reunion in 2021.
After the first of the year, especially with COVID-19 situation, we were given the time to fully analyze the reunion locations for the central CONUS in 2021. Analysis of Ft Worth, TX left some of us with discomfort when we analyzed some of the important factors to our members. It turned out that the best place to be in Ft Worth was downtown where there is a wonderful historic cowtown area with plenty of bars, restaurants, live music, and an indoor bull riding area. It sounded on the surface as a great place to spend a few days. But we found out that we could NOT get a hotel downtown that would allowed us to bring in our own liquor, beer or wine or have a hospitality room large enough with enough freedom of rules to enjoy. This was due to city or area ordinances.
The only hotel we could meet our needs was several miles away from the downtown and was in the middle of a corn field. Not only were the premises not attractive for hanging out, there were no places nearby to get food or drink or needs easily. You would have to UBER, hotel van or cab down to the cowtown area if you wanted to go out for dinner or drinks. Additionally we learned that the trip from the airport was a challenge. It involved having to get your baggage and get on a separate train that would leave you off some distance from the hotel. After all considerations we had concerns about our aging members we didn’t think the hotel or the travel to entertainment would have pleased everyone.
During this period Paul took a trip to analyze the St Louis venue. He reported that it was great and he thought that our members would like it. It is a nice hotel complex with several shops and restaurants of several different types. The hotel management has agreed to favorable terms that will give us a large hospitality room and reasonable price on liquor and beer. There are a number of sites in the area that make for some great trips. We are now in that phase of preparation. It will be, tentatively from Sept 27 till Oct 6th, 2021. Weather looks great during that time. Some of the trips in consideration are a trip to the Busch plant to see the famous Clydesdale Horse team. We are also looking into a relaxing length dinner cruise on the Mississippi. The state of Missouri also has a full size Vietnam Memorial Wall approximately one hour away from our hotel. Some of our members have never been to Washington, DC Vietnam Memorial Wall so this may be a tour option.
We think that the facilities at the Westport Complex sound totally self contained and will provide a lot of drinking, dining, coffee etc without having to go very far. All on the premises.
Westport Village has easy access to St. Louis airport.
